Zdenka Mlinar

Zdenka Mlinar

It Was An Autumn Night

There was a peace in which

About the future, she dreamed.

She had a heart full of love,

Full of joy and youth.

She was light, enthusiastic, and cheerful,

By floral scents, captivated;

With watercolors of rosy dawns

and blue twilights, painted.

Once,

While in the embrace of her homeland,

She was blessed

With the energy of light,

In the garden of her paradise.

Once, I said,

For everything beautiful is short-lived,

Some other time now gives her

An episode of new happiness.

Day after day,

Year after year, but in vain;

In turn, troubles occur.

Next to each other,

One is mad and confused.

By the unfortunate, they are blessed,

And don't even know who will go where.

Once,

Just as autumn was full of gold,

At midnight, human satans approached,

In the name of evil, in the name of war,

To snatch from her heart, holy love,

There they come,

To make haunted trouble out of a happy woman!

His snout grinned

As he tied the hands of her love,

And his eyes shone

As he cut his figure out of hers.

That night,

Not one star in the sky was left;

She didn't see anything.

She was left alone,

But drunk in love,

Which warms her soul even today.

She feels forgiveness…

And the former happiness,

TO NEW LIVES, SHE RADIATES.

BILA JE JESENJA NOĆ

Bio je mir,

U kojem je snove o budućnosti snila.

I radosti i mladosti

I srca puna ljubavi je bila.

Laka, polenta i vedra,

Cvjetnim mirisima opijena;

Akvarelima, rumenih svitanja

I plavih sutona, obojena.

Jednom,

Kada je bila u zagrljaju rodnoga kraja,

Energijom svjetla blagoslovljena,

U vrtu svoga raja.

Jednom, rekoh,

Jer sve što je lijepo kratko traje,

Epizodu nove sreće,

Neki drugi vakat sada joj daje.

Dan za danom,

Godinu za godinom, al’ uzalud;

Nevolje se nižu,

Jedan uz drugoga,

Zbunjen je i lud.

Amenuju ih nesretnici,

A da ne znaju koji će kud’.

Jednom,

Baš kada je i jesen bila puna zlata,

Eto u ponoć ljudske sotone,

U ime zla, u ime rata;

S namjerom da joj iz srca iščupa ljubav svetu,

Eto ga,

da od žene sretne učini nevolju kletu!

Njuška mu se cerila,

Dok je njenoj ljubavi ruke vezao,

A oči mu se caklile,

Dok je iz njenih lik njegov rezao.

Te noći,

I nebo bez zvijezda ostade,

Više ništa vidjela nije.

Osta sama,

Al’ opijena ljubavlju

Koja joj i danas dušu grije.

Ćuti oprost…

I srećom od nekada –

ŽIVOTE NOVE MIJE!

Silent Night

Silent...

Be silent, night;

Maybe, to the Earth,

Peace will come.

Radiate, to it, the shiny starlight;

Maybe you'll restore

Its original paradise.

The World's anthems,

Let them all be silent;

The beauty of silence,

Let them feel it...

And when dawn breaks,

Let no one remember

The hard days.

Night...

With you, I would like

To go on a prayer crusade.

Oh, you shepherds,

Who are offering peace,

Be our defenders…

Be silent, night.

This midnight glare

Will pass in no time.

And believe, don't suspect;

Maybe God will hear

Our silent prayer.

TIHA NOĆI

Tiha...

Budi tiha noći,

Možda će mir Zemlji doći;

Isijavaj na nju zvijezda sjaj,

Možda joj iskonski vratiš raj.

Himne Svijeta,

Neka sve šute,

Ljepotu tišine

Neka ćute...

A kada zora svane,

Neka nitko

Ne pamti teške dane.

Noći...,

Ja s tobom bih,

U molitveni pohod željela poći;

O, vi pastiri,

Što mir nudite,

Stražarima našim budite…

Ćuti, noći.

Ovo ponoćno blještavilo

Brzo će proći.

I vjeruj, ne sluti,

Možda će

Našu tihu molitvu

Bog i čuti.

New Year’s Eve

It's New Year's Eve,

And you and I all alone;

The night of our dreams,

When one is to kiss,

Not shun company.

Outside, everything is shining,

Partly from crystal ice,

Partly from city festivities,

And your eye is watching

The glow of my eye.

At midnight,

A spark was ignited

In heaven and earth,

In our hearts.

The year,

Which must, in history,

Go down,

Is sending kisses, while leaving,

To everyone.

The hearts are fluttering,

As well as the heated bodies.

And the beauty of the night,

Only one

Decorated fir is sharing with us.

It's New Year's Eve,

And on the door, midnight is knocking.

With the future, the past is wrestling,

wanting to stop the clock...

And you and I all alone;

We are shouting to time:

"Stop, stop!"

And to dawn:

"Don't break, don't break!"

SILVESTROVO

Noć je, Silvestrova,

A ti i ja sami;

Noć iz naših snova,

Kad se ljubi,

A ne čami.

Vani sve blješti,

Što od kristalnog leda,

Što od gradskih fešti,

A tvoje oko

Sjaj moga oka gleda.

Iskra planu

S trenutkom ponoći

Na nebu i zemlji,

U našim srcima.

Godina,

Koja u povijest

Mora poći,

Odlazeći,

Poljupce šalje svima.

Trepere srca

Trepere vrela tijela,

A ljepotu noći s nama dijeli

Samo jedna

Ukrašena jela...

Silvestrovo je

I ponoć kuca na vrata.

Prošlost se s budućnosti hrve,

Želeći zaustaviti kazaljke sata...

A ti i ja sami -

Vremenu kličemo

Stani, stani!

A zori

Ne svani, ne svani!
