Overnight Melancholy

My abstract companion is you

ineffable melancholy,

in your sorrow is my composed sadness,

the same as yours is my bitterness.

Melancholy recondite,

with you, in silence, palpitates my soul,

dear emotions my hands on pages imprint,

so sweet and melancholic poems are born,

refined expression of the motions of my spirit.

Softly melancholy,

your lips whisper arcane words,

I hear it as a masterful symphony

that penetrates my mind and convince me

that you’ll follow me unchanged,

indefinite feeling.

Serene melancholy,

old companion in the long hours of quiet,

only you can create in the dreary winter days

a candid and musical atmosphere,

because in your purity there’s also mine,

sweet, endless melancholy.

The Exhilaration Of The Night

The exhilaration of the night,

enlightens always my soul,

It slowly goes down the street

and everything becomes poetry,

in the shade and between the light

of the street lamps.

It’s sluggish and silent,

its melancholy seems to whisper

something unrealistic,

people's hearts, the rivers and seas

are soothed by its breeze.

Refinement spreads in the night

scent of incomparable freshness,

purifying of the tormented souls.

I seem to recall the taste of customs

now lost, whispers of unknown voices ,

sounds of guitars and mandolins,

good times spent with songs,

serenade and lost friends.

It’s really evanescent the essence

of the exhilaration,

It comes from such a mystery,

from a cosmos created by a supreme mind

to inebriate and refresh the broken spirit.

The last star lights up in the sky,

I've given it a brilliant name

enshrined in the firmament.

There won’t be name more beautiful

than mine, I’ll be so excited

thinking it come to enlighten me,

I’ll distinguish among thousands of stars

my “Lucky Star” and I’m going to exclaim:

“Appear! I’m waiting for you,

It's the middle of the night. Shine!”

Don’t forget to grant my desire!

Nighttime Shivers

The macabre vision

of an heinous murder,

of a crime in the night

it’s chilling.

Shivers,

frost the blood

of witnesses,

shakes the limbs paralyzing

and on the face appears

an hysterical smile,

while the victim squirms

to wriggle free in vane,

the volition to hope

disintegrates into evil.

Shivers,

overwhelm the breath

by cutting it off,

dark shadows springs out

of nowhere,

upset the witnesses

of the horror,

with gaze terrified

and wide open eyes

next to the agonizing victim

that sees its future vanish

like smoke.

Finally a puerile cry

dissolves shivers,

only the horrifying vision

remains indelible.
