Nandita De nee Chatterjee
Worm Supermoon
The dark silhouette of leaves
Sometimes still
Sometimes moving in a motion
Much like a sleepwalk
Hypnotized I stare
Grey and black merge
Marbled emotions
Love and pain
Seething like the night
My life as it were
Sleepwalking like those leaves.
But treacherous heart
Rebellious from the start
Looking intently
Window panes thrashing
A grand old tree
Gnarled branches spread out
Claiming right of way
Looming over the sidewalk
My saviour at all times
Especially at night
We converse
Watch out for each other.
A numb mind
Transfixed at the midnight dance
Tracing the shadows with my eyes
Bereft of emotions.
A bluish streak appears
Dark clouds moving away
A sudden dazzle
A startling ball of silver
Hanging low on the sky
Miraculously poised between
The thick leaves
Swaying in homage.
Eyes wide open
Heart stops
The first supermoon of 2021
'Dol Purnima' night
Monikered Worm Supermoon
Right above my eyes.
Into my soul
Swirling in wet shadows
A streak of light
Suspended
Suggestive
A silver wish come true!
*Glossary of Bengali term:
'Dol Purnima' - Full Moon night on the occasion of Holi in India.
Transition
Daydreams
Pastel palette
Swirl on swirl
Whispers and shy smiles
Eyes lost in the distance
Oceans of emotions
Carried on the diaphanous wings
Angels with harps
Strumming a tune
Only the young hear.
Nocturnal musings
When sound sleep has run away
The dark knows no fear
And the stillness is inviting.
Into its voluminous bosom
I surrender
To sink into
That self which fears daylight
Seeks refuge from company.
The time to twirl
Cast away the shell
Free the locks
Laugh seductively
Now coy now a tease
Who's to judge?
Play out the passion
Release myself
From frigid life's stranglehold
Feel the moment
Surrender to the moonlight
Blend into the dark
Embrace the deep shades
Turn them into
My reality.
Mother
It's dark
Past midnight maybe
Sounds of silence
Knocking against the window pane.
The sheets move
Like ghostly waifs
She watches silently
Her heart had stopped throbbing
A decade back.
Stoicly pushing herself up
Fumbling for the stick
Walking down the stairs
Grasping the grab rails.
Light sensors steer her
Weakening eyesight
Forgetful mind
She gets a glass.
Sleep won't come easy
Never does
Nights are long when alone
Reading a thing of the past.
Sighing, she shuts her eyes.
A tinkling sound.
Suddenly she's all smiles
Eagerly she grabs the phone.
Thank God for the time zone.
His day's begun in the US
Her son taking his lunch break.
The night has suddenly turned warm.
