Midnight Moments
In the darkness, long before the
dawn,
I struggle between wakefulness
and sleep,
for, you see, in these midnight
moments,
it is here that my mettle is best
known.
We are made to bend, and the
keeper
of the keys allots us freedom,
else bars
us from slumber. There is more,
much more
than metaphor, in the barring of
that door.
Daylight will come, like the
beaver breaking
through the surface of the pond,
wherein he
has created his lodge, his
perimeters, his
boundaries, awake and aware,
forever
eager it seems, if his is an
eagerness
I may hardly recognize in myself,
here,
alone, in these midnight moments,
hindered by both darkness and
doubt.
Midnight At The Oasis
After a seemingly endless journey
across the indomitable desert of
life,
here I am at the crossroads of
day
and night, of sanity and sorrow,
of willfulness and want.
To my good fortune, life has
placed
before me an oasis, whereat I
might
rest my weary frame, contemplate
my fancies and my fears, come to
grips with my losses and my
gains.
But something daunting and
disturbing
yet appears in those dark
moments, when
midnight descends on the oasis
and there
are so few stars seen shedding
light in
the heaven of my understanding.
Midnight Musings
What is it that my heart longs
after
and my mind seeks to resolve,
when the clock strikes midnight?
Was there not sufficient seeking
when the sun shone, resplendent,
availing me the light of day?
What is it that I might possibly
find
in the darkest hour, when caught
in-between the shadow and the
light?
Must I forever be troubled, at
such an
ungodly hour, as a truant child
might be,
his allowance in jeopardy, when
locking
horns with the man of the house?
